  15. Banning a BATmobile

  17. <p>    The Batman summer superhype has caught up with Las Cruces
  18. police chief Ron Axtell. Warner Communications demanded that
  19. the city stop using the Batman logo on its ambulance-like
  20. BATmobile. The vehicle is used to catch drunk drivers, and its
  21. popularized name really stands for the breath alcohol-testing
  22. unit.
  23. </p>
  24. <p>    Axtell did not mind losing his BATmobile. "I'm sure it's
  25. not going to affect our arrests," he said. "The people we put
  26. in it probably don't even know there's a bat on it, they're so
  27. drunk."
  28. </p>
  29. <p>    But Axtell was no joker. He cut a deal and got Warner to
  30. donate an official Batman jacket as a prize in a city-wide
  31. contest to come up with a new name for the five-year-old
  32. program.
  33. </p>
  34. <p>    It's all more hype for a batty summer.
